LYRICS

Song Notes
Electric Guitar

I have put some of the lyrics for a few of my songs on this page.  I picked them for what they mean to me, or how they fit into my story. I typically use pretty good diction when I am singing.  However, I know that frustration of not knowing what the singer is singing.  So, if you come across a song and you're not sure of the words to the song, contact me and send you the lyrics.  Make sure you tell me which song.

I Love Lyrics

01

In Lonesome Dove

V1

She was a girl in a wagon train

Headed west across the plains

The train got lost in a summer storm

Couldn’t go on, couldn’t go home

Then she saw him riding through the rain

He took charge of the wagons and he saved the train

She looked down and her heart was gone

The train went west but she stayed on

In Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

V2

A farmer’s daughter with a gentle hand

A blooming rose in a bed of sand

She loved a man who wore a star

A Texas ranger known near and far

So they got married and they had a child

But times were tough and the west was wild

It was no surprise the day she learned

That her Texas man would not return

To Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

CHORUS:

Back to back with the Rio Grande

A Christian woman in a Devil’s land

She learned the language and she learned to fight

But she never learned how to beat the lonely nights

In Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

V3

She watched her boy grow to a man

He had an angel’s heart and the Devil’s hand

He wore a star for all to see

A Texas lawman legacy

One day word blew into town

It seems the men who shot his father down

Had robbed a bank in Jericho

Only thing ‘tween them and Mexico

Was Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

V4

Shadows stretched across the land

As shots rang out ‘cross the Rio Grande

When the smoke had finally cleared the street

The men lay at the ranger’s feet

Legend tells to this very day

Of shots that were coming from an alleyway

No one knows who held the gun

There’s no doubt if you ask someone

In Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

CHORUS:

North and South

V1

My daddy left the family farm to get a job in a factory

Used his cousin’s paperwork ’cause that boy was only 17

And the north was a cold place to be for a southern boy from Tennessee

Living in a boarding house, four to a bed in different shifts

Foundry was dark and dank, but money made all the difference

And the north was a hot place to be for a southern boy from Tennessee

Chorus

North and south much the same, but different as can be

Full of hope and heartaches in the dance of destiny

We all got a place where we come from, we all got a place we’re at

North, south, east, west

The world’s a cold place to hang your hat

V2

I grew up on beans and greens in a common kind of midwest town

Half the place was transplant ‘Billies the other half tried to knock us down

And the north was a cold place to be for a girl of a man from Tennessee

You might say I’m a dying breed, they don’t go north for work no more

But I mixed Cash and Haggard up with a Motown kind of rock and roll

And the north was a hot place to be for a girl of a man from Tennessee

Chorus:

North and south much the same, but different as can be

Full of hope and heartaches in the dance of destiny

We all got a place where we come from, we all got a place we’re at

North, south, east, west

The world’s a cold place to hang your hat

Bridge

Made my move and headed south on I65

To find myself and make a better life

They only knew where I was from, they didn’t know me

And I heard ‘em whisper beneath their breath

Another damn Yankee, another damn Yankee

And the south’s a cold place to be

For a girl of a man from Tennessee

Chorus:

North and south much the same, but different as can be

Full of hope and heartaches in the dance of destiny

We all got a place where we come from, we all got a place we’re at

North, south, east, west

The world’s a cold place to hang your hat

No Special Favors

V1

Maybe a driver or a doctor but she’ll never be a man

If you want her service she says, “Take me as I am

Don’t make it easy, treat me just like the rest

That’s the only way you’ll see me at my best”

That’s the only way you’ll see me at my best”

Chorus

No special favors neither given nor asked

No special favors she can do any task

With her will and her power she’ll move up in the ranks

With no special favors and no special thanks

No special favors and no special thanks

V2

In training her body rebelled at her choice

She pushed through the pain like a good ‘ol boy

There were teases and threats she maneuvered between

Then without help she was part of the team

Then without help she was part of the team

Chorus

No special favors neither given nor asked

No special favors she can do any task

With her will and her power she’ll move up in the ranks

With no special favors and no special thanks

No special favors and no special thanks

Bridge

She’s given so much to be in this place

Only sisters-in-arms understand the weight…of

Chorus

No special favors neither given nor asked

No special favors she can do any task

With her will and her power she’ll move up in the ranks

With no special favors and no special thanks

No special favors and no special thanks

Destination

V1

I took off the ring and put it in my pocket

Working up the nerve to let it fly

If you ever really loved me, you forgot it

'Cause you didn't care the day you said goodbye

Let the landlord sell what's left in our apartment

There's nothing there I couldn't stand to lose

Now it's time to find my way out of this darkness

It's a one-way trip to getting over you

Chorus:

I'm not sure of my direction

I'm just following the wind

Every turn is only guessing

To a place I've never been

But I will know it when I see it

Like a whisper in my ear

Saying destination anywhere but here

V2

A thousand miles behind, years wiser, one day older

That rings burns hot as branded steel

So off a dusty, two land Arizona shoulder

I look up to the heavens for the will

There was nothing but wildflowers in attendance

They seemed to bow there heads there in the breeze

And the mountains standing by me like a witness

With one throw I set myself and that ring free

Chorus:

I'm not sure of my direction

I'm just following the wind

Every turn is only guessing

To a place I've never been

But I will know it when I see it

Like a whisper in my ear

Saying destination anywhere but here

I Wanna Go To Heaven

V1

I was rockin it in my blue jean mini

Lookin hot and feeling pretty

I was having a heavenly day

Then I ran into Deacon Dan

He was filling up the Grace Church van

He said “Cover up, girl, repent and pray”

I like lookin trashy chic

It costs a lot to look this cheap

But I know that ain’t all that Jesus sees

Chorus:

Jesus sees my broken heart

Jesus knows that I’m smart

Jesus understands I’m just trying to be me

I may be a fashion rebel, but that don’t make me the Devil

I want to go to heaven, but I don’t wanna to look like hell

V2

I know you think that I’m a mess

Because you don’t like how I dress,

But I try to be like Jesus every day

Church ain’t a social club

It’s a place where sinners come

Why don’t put your cross and nails away

Come on Dan look me in the eyes

My chest has got you hypnotized

And I know that ain’t all that Jesus sees

Chorus:

Jesus sees my broken heart

Jesus knows that I’m smart

Jesus understands I’m just trying to be me

I may be a fashion rebel, but that don’t make me the Devil

I want to go to heaven, but I don’t wanna to look like hell

Bridge:

Deacon Dan looked so shocked

I walked away, then I stopped

And I told him what I thought he should hear

Pre-chorus:

Jesus knows a broken heart

Jesus knows an open heart

Jesus understands who we’re meant to be..and

Chorus:

Jesus sees my broken heart

Jesus knows that I’m smart

Jesus understands I’m just trying to be me

I may be a fashion rebel, but that don’t make me the Devil

I want to go to heaven, but I don’t wanna to look like hell

Jesus You Feel Like Home

V1

I go to the garden at dawn while the dew is still on

All of the roses

The words that I hear, falling sweet on my ear

The Son of God discloses

Chorus

And He walks with me and He talks with me

And He tells me I am His own

And the joy we share as I tarry there

Is like nothing I’ve ever known

Jesus you feel like home

Jesus you feel like home

V2

The moment He speaks His voice is so sweet

All creation listens

Then every bird sings to the king of all kings

As His glory brightens

Chorus

And He walks with me and He talks with me

And He tells me I am His own

And the peace we share as I stay right there

Is like nothing I’ve ever known

Jesus you feel like home

Jesus you feel like home

V3

I stay in the garden as day starts to harden

The call of the world grows softer

He’s has what I need, and I don’t want to leave

So I stay a little while longer

Chorus

And He walks with me and He talks with me

And He tells me I am His own

And the love we share as I stay right there

Is like nothing I’ve ever known

Jesus you feel like home

Jesus you feel like home
